These are some of the stories from the 2007 event. If you need some inspiration, encouragment or just some proof that events do make a difference, read on!

Tuesday | South West Base Graffiti Removal Team

On Tuesday a team of keen Big Week ‘Outerers’ were rostered on to do some Graffiti removal in the community. They found some on the side wall of a house. First they checked with the owner if it was ok that they remove the graffiti. The home belonged to an elderly lady who at first was a bit unsure
as to who these young people were. Through the screen door the team explained what the Big Week Out was and that the council had ok’d their event. Once the graffiti was removed the lady invited the team in for some scones! A friend of hers was also visiting and was so impressed that she
said she would write to the council to let them know what a great job they
had done!

Wednesday | Inner South Base
Cans for Canteen

Earlier in the week other teams had been dropping leaflets in the local area
to let residents know that the Big Week Out was collecting Cans for Canteen. When this team knocked on one door to see if they had any cans to donate, the owner gave the equivalent of 1100 cans worth as a donation instead!

Wednesday | West Base
Gardening at Fulham Gardens Primary School

The West base launched into action on Wednesday morning (West is running on Wednesday and Thursday only). The very first service event involved all 60 Participants going to Fulham Gardens Primary School to help tidy the grounds. Older members of the church congregations also came along to help point out what was a weed and what wasn’t. Others potted new plants into pots. The Principal and some Staff came out to see how the team was going and were overwhelmed with the volume of work already completed in only a few hours.

Wednesday | East Base
Backyard Blitz

The East base received a call from someone who had had their Backyard Blitzed earlier in the day. They called to say what a great job the team had done and that they were amazed at how much they had managed to do in only a few hours.

Thursday | Inner-South Base
Clowning

I’m from the Inner-South base and I was out clowning on Thursday Morning and we were at Rundle. We’d finished clowning and were waiting for the bus to come. We were bored so we were making some balloon animals while we waited. A lady came up to me with her partner. She wasn’t really happy and she was upset about something and hadn’t had a great day. She wanted me to make something for her and she said she would give me $2. I said sure I’d make her something but it was for free. I made her a dog while I talked to her about why we were doing this. She was amazed and said not many people would do that sort of thing. As I gave her the dog she was extremely grateful and said, “Thankyou so much! You’ve put a smile on my face.” She loved what we were doing and was a lot happier afterwards.I thought it was so awesome what something so little could do to brighten her day.
Anna, Inner-South Base
